Basics of
Wireless Microphone
One of the most basic requirements of an effective presentation is wireless microphone. Not only it is essential to facilitate free movement of the presenter, it also allows you to get interactive with the audience. However, in that case you will need multiple wireless microphones and a sound system. Wireless microphones are also used by bands and performers to route sound from their instruments and the vocalists. The whole idea is keep the wire clutter at minimum and let the presenter or the performer concentrate on the task at their hands.
Components of
Wireless Microphones
Wireless microphone system comprises of three essential components namely –
· Receiver
· Input device or the microphone
· Transmitter
All three components of a wireless microphone system are interconnected. Depending on the type of system you are using, all three may be separate or the microphone and the transmitter is clubbed into single equipment which looks very much like a regular microphone. The range of a wireless microphone may range anywhere between 100 to 1000 feet depending on the type of system and equipment you are using. A standard 9-Volt battery is enough to power most wireless microphones.
The Receiver
The receiver component of the wireless microphone system receives the electronic sound signal from the transmitter, converts it into a sound signal and routes it to the sound system. Receivers can be of two types –
· Single Antenna Receiver – As the name suggests, a single antenna receiver has one antenna and single tuner. In simple terms it works only on a single frequency. The transmitter and the receiver need to be tuned to this particular frequency. As you may be moving around the stage during presentation, the signal strength may get affected leading to interruptions in sound.
· Diversity Receivers – A diversity receiver has two antennas and two tuners. The receiver automatically selects better of the two signals or a blend of them to deliver uninterrupted relay of sound signals. As diversity receiver has more than one sources of sound signal, the quality of sound and consistency is higher than delivered by a single antenna receiver.
Wireless receivers usually are placed near the sound system; however, they also can be mounted on video cameras if simultaneous AV feed is required for the presentation. If it is a normal presentation, the wireless receiver usually is placed near the projector or the sound system.
Be Clutter Free
You may need wireless microphone system for a business presentation, during church services, road shows, outdoor events and many such settings where large number of audiences are addressed. It becomes particularly tricky if you are not operating in a close environment like a conference room. It thus is advisable to let professionals handle such things.
