How to Make a
100 Inch Screen within $100s
The market today is flooded with digital home theatre projectors that have become affordable even for average people. Naturally, when a home theatre projector can be purchased for as low as $1000, spending another $500 or higher for a screen does not make economic sense. The projector screens available in the market though are of excellent quality, installing those costs almost equivalent to the projector. Of course you can utilize a white-wall as a projector screen, but absence of a frame and wall textures hamper the image quality. Moreover, the shade of the white-wall may play spoilsport and bring down the color balance of the image projected.
One way to overcome this problem is to build a home theatre projection screen at home. But most them either are do not gel well with the home theatre projectors or are too cumbersome to be built. Assembly Procedure
Step 1: Saw-off the both the ends of all Poplar board pieces exactly at 45-degrees.
Step 2: Cut the Velveteen fabric into four pieces. Two pieces should measure 6.5-inch in width and 58-inch in length. The other two pieces should measure 6.5-inch in width and 96-inch in length.
Step 3: Place the Velveteen cloth pieces on a plain surface and lay the appropriately cut and sized pieces of Poplar board on them at the center. Stretch the fabric and staple it to the Poplar board. As the Velveteen strips are of bigger in length, you either can trim the extra cloth using scissors or glue them to the board pieces using the glue. The latter is recommended. One of the thinner edges would be bare, which later will be used for stapling the paper.
Step 4: After all the board pieces are finely clothed with Velveteen, lay them in a rectangular shape (bare edges pointing outwards) on the ground. Place the L-bracket at each corner, drill holes through pre-existing holes on the bracket and tightly screw the Philip woodscrews in them.
Step 5: Check the frame is solid and has no loose screws. Starting from the 55-inch edge, roll out the white seamless paper along the entire edge. Staple the paper to the bare edge at an interval of 9 inches each. Keeping the paper taut and keeping even tension, roll the paper on the entire frame while stapling it along the edges. Cut the extra paper.
Your 100-inch DIY home projector screen is now ready. You either can hang it with hinges to the ceiling or just affix the frame to the wall. If you are affixing to the ceiling, ensure that the paper does not gets damages and when the frame is pulled down, it clings completely to the wall.
